That has become my overused motto the past few days. It all started Friday night when we drove up to the lake. Jay, the kids, my parents and I went to Walmart. the usual routine is that the men and women split up to get the items we need. As I was pushing the shopping cart, my mom and I begin the following dialogue:
Mom: "Here let me push that for you."
Me: "Oh, I've got it."
Mom: "It just doesn't look right, honey. You're pregnant."
Me: "I'm pregnant, not disabled!"
I had to use the following phrase several times over the weekend. Getting on and off the boat, walking along the dock, etc.
Then today, Jay was unable to mow the lawn (it was his day off), because the ground was still water-logged. I told him that I would take care of it this weekend, to which he replied, "I don't think so. You're pregnant!" And then I said (say it along with me now), "I'm pregnant! Not disabled!"
Now to you good-intentioned, wonderful, caring people out there, I don't mean to offend anyone. It's just that I've done this a few times, and I know what is allowed and what my limitations are. I'm not carrying the kids around, or lifting heavy furniture. But normal daily activities, including exercise, are perfectly acceptable.
And to you retailers who have special parking places for expectant mothers - That is very sweet of you. But I think I can handle the walk.

i've never been pregnant before, so don't know if i'm allowed to comment, and i KNOW i'm an independent stubborn girl (kind of like you) but i think i would lean toward... MILK IT! you don't have an excuse like this often to be treated like a princess. enjoy!
You're right- I should be lazy while I can right now! Thanks for the new perspective!
I agree with Ashley 100%!!!
I loved this post! Love you :)
so funny...i was about to type the same thing. ;) and don't think of it as lazy-it's the gift of rest. plus, when that 3rd trimester hits, you'll be thankful for the few minutes to put your feet up. -AE
In a couple more months you will be upset if that parking spot is taken.
I think you still need to relax some, take it from me you will need it. I haven't relaxed in 2 months and 3 days :) I know your kids are older than my second one and probably don't get in to that much anymore, but it is still hard. I can't wait for my oldest to get home from school for a little help.
Take care!
It's been a while, but I remember LOVING the expectant mothers' parking space. I probably could have used the exercise, but hey, enjoy the perks! I'm glad you seem to be feeling so good.
I am the same way with the parking spot; however, when I am as big as a house, then I will probably cry if I don't get that spot.
can walk, and in my case, NEED the walk. :)
I feel you here, sure others say milk it. But the problem is when it is something you WANT to do, no one wants to let you because they feel you are incapable. I remember my mom not wanting me to go get a pedicure (which I desperately needed because who can reach their toes!?) because of the FUMES. I had to even have my Doctor confirm that this would not harm the baby. She still did not believe it. Well I had several pedicures with both of my children, and they only have slight ticks once in a while. :)
(J/k Perfectly normal healthy children.)
