As you know, we are moving to the Memphis area later this year. Although I'm happy about this, I am still stressed about where to live, etc. Even though Jay will not be there until September, I would like to get settled in before school starts. And that's another thing. I don't know where to put the kids in school. I'd love for them to go to Harding, but that's just not an option right now. So I need a good public school system. I'm starting to panic. We still have time, but I'm such a planner. The church that Jay and I went to 4 years ago is completely different. We don't know anyone there anymore. We need a church where we feel comfortable getting involved and make good friends. I don't want to rent anymore. We've been renting ever since we sold our house 4 years ago, and I'm ready to settle down and buy again. But that just stresses me out too! All of this with a baby on the way. I just want all of the answers right now. I want everything to fall into place perfectly. This is keeping me up at night. Please pray for me. And if any of you Memphis buddies have good advice, I won't object.

Where did you and Jay go before? Don't Wendy and David go to White Station now? I understand your concern and uncertainty as far as schools go. I'll be praying for you about that, as well as all the other adjustments you're going to have to make!
Don't stress Christy! :) Dean and I just moved churches. We're going back to Highland where I grew up. They are in the process of moving and are meeting at Harding Academy Cherry Rd. right now. Emmersen loves the children's program. That's a real big reason we have switched even though it's a further drive. About the schools...don't know much about them considering Emmersen is going on 3. A good friend of mine has her kids in Lakeland Elementary and LOVES it. She's a very picky mom too (in a good way). She just wanted the best for them since they couldn't afford private. I guess that's my imput. Sorry couldn't be of more help. I'll be praying for all of those decisions...I know it's so hard!
My aunt lives in Dixon and my neice andher husband and family are in Collierville. Both LOVE their communities, although I have a feeling they are not near Memphis? Can not remember!
Everything will work out for the best. Good luck.
Hey! In graduate school, I consulted with many of the Memphis city and county schools. So, I feel like I have a good idea which ones are the best. These are just my thoughts and I don't mean to offend anyone.
The Collierville public school system looks good to me. I always feel safe in those schools and it appears as though the teachers truely care about the kids.
The only other school system that I would consider would be the Lakeland Elementary/Arlington Middle and High School. It is a fairely new school system and looks really good. If you chose these schools and Harding did become an option later, then you would be right by the new school. This area (Lakeland/Arlington) is really booming and I am not just saying that since I grew up out there.
The schoold systems should have information available to the public-test scores, varying reports to show socio-economic ratios, patental involvement,
etc...plus I would recommend visiting the schools (call the counselor and set up a time-to visit a classroom) I did these things when we moved to Greenwood.
I know its an axious time for you-we will be praying for all of you!
I would whole-heartedly agree with Les on the C-ville schools. I've got some friends that teach there and some friends whose kids go there. Haven't heard one bad thing about it. that's why we moved to Collierville, was for the small town feel AND the schools. If I didn't work here and they didn't have to go to Harding, that's where they'd be for sure. Now, the cost of homes isn't cheap, simply b/c of the appeal and schools, etc. And we are at White Station and LOVE it. Lots of kids, great families. We'd love for you to come visit with us sometime. seriously, if you wanna call me so we can chat, I'm here. lemme know. don't know if you have my number OR email. You guys are gonna be fine!
I am doing what you asked. Praying! I want God to lead you to what He desires for you. I trust that He will do what is best for you.
Dad
I have no Memphis advise, but I can totally relate to the stress. We are moving as well- not to a new town, but to a new house. We have stressed over to rent/to buy. where to live, the money, everything. Just try and relax and trust in God- that is what we are trying- easier said than done some times :)
hey! i know esp. in the city of memphis it can be stressful to think about moving. something to keep in mind is the annexing of schools. a lot of the collierville schools are already annexed into the memphis city school system and lakeland is scheduled to be in another year or so. although i work for them, i am not a huge fan. my stepkids go to county schools (we live in bartlett). i like bartlett because there is absolutely no danger of being annexed into the city and of having sky-rocketing property taxes by good ol' willie. just something to think about!
