Calling Ann Landers

Hayley received a birthday invitation on Friday that kind of threw me for a loop! I had never seen anything like it. First of all, the party was for today (2 days later), and unfortunately we were unable to make it. I didn't really look at the invite until tonight. It was a standard store-bought invitation with all of the details written inside. But there was also a small piece of white paper inserted with the following handwritten:

Favorite Characters: Hannah Montana, Bratz, Barbie, High School Musical, Strawberry Shortcake, & That's So Raven

Gift Suggestions: Anything from the list above; Webkinz, or gift cards from her favorite stores & restaurants.....
Target, Walmart, Children's Place, Claires, Dillards, Macy's, Old Navy, Marshalls, T.J. Maxx, Red Lobster, On the Border, & Chick-Fil-A

* There will be water activities
Please bring a towel & dry clothes!

Does anything strike you as tacky about this? Or is it just me? Maybe I should register Hayley at Target or something for her next birthday party?

If your kid needs toys so bad that you have to put suggestions in a birthday invitation then you need to rethink what you are teaching your kid. Also, if you are inviting someone to your kid's party, don't you think they know what the kid likes? If not, why are you inviting them...is it all about the number of gifts?

Emily Post would be extremely horrified and yes, I think it is tacky. I agree with everything that April pointed out. I just hate what this mother is inadvertantly teaching her child.

I think that I'm going to register at Best Buy and Home Depot for my birthday. :-)
