Husband Project Day Four

Project #4
Heart vs. Stomach
A Treat Just for Him

“You can tell a lot about a fellow’s character by his way of eating jellybeans.”
Ronald Reagan
Your Project:
Get a food treat for your husband that he’s not required to share with you or any other family member.

Getting Creative
Stumped for ideas? Here are some thoughts:
• Get his favorite pint of Ben & Jerry’s and hide it behind the frozen chicken. Even if you buy it on Tuesday, you’ll have it ready and waiting for his special night later in the week.
• Is there a certain cut of meat that your husband loves? How about having the butcher cut something just for him? Most supermarkets will even do the marinade for you – one less thing to think about.
• Is there a certain candy that your husband loves from his childhood? Check out www.candywarehouse.com. They have all the nostalgic candy you could want (Black Jack Gum, anyone?) while also carrying any modern favorite you could be looking for.
• My husband’s family loves something called “noodles and mashed potatoes” (we lovingly refer to it as “The Starch Fest”). I learned how to make this special dish just for him.
• My guy loves the smell of baking almost as much as he enjoys eating the treat. Have some brownies in the oven when he gets home from work or working out. (I know, it negates the workout, but isn’t chocolate always worth it?)
• Our friend Scott mentioned that he loves cranberry sauce, but eats it only at Thanksgiving. His wife intentionally made the holiday treat for him this past July.
• Are you a wife who is an expert at low-cal salads and other forms of chick-food? Check out The Ultimate Guide to Man Food at www.kathilipp.com for ideas

Okay, I tried to talk to my hubby this morning before work about this stuff! He did say he used to get those little wax bottles. Also, he talked about his mom's delicious fried chicken and mashed potatoes. I emailed her to see if she could tell me how to make that! I have never made fried chicken in my life:) So I will try not to burn the house down tonight, but will make fried chicken and mashed potatoes for him. Afterward, I will surprise him with some of those wax things he was talking about. I hope I survive this for the next challenge!

Ok, I am having to cheat here as David will not be home today or tonight due to work. David loves jalapeno peppers (he eats them whole & raw) as well as loves them in recipes. So, I looked online Monday and found chocolate jalapeno cookies. I surprised him and made a batch and put them in his lunch Tuesday morning. He LOVED them and was so surprised I had taken time to find the recipe and make them for him. They were actually delicious too and a nice combination of sweet & heat.

I met with a friend tonight, so on my way home I stopped by Sonic and got Robbie his favorite... A Reese's Blast! Just for him! I actually did not even get anything for me! Which was hard for me to do... but this was something just for my husband! He was excited! And a little shocked that I didn't come home with a treat for me!

Okay, so I had a meltdown last night. I had lunch with a friend, which was great! Then I got the chicken and other items at the grocery store. THEN, I DROVE AROUND FOR 1 1/2 HOURS TRYING TO FIND THE WAX BOTTLE THINGS!!! I went to like 8 places (no kidding) and never found them. So, I get home and he's there already. I put all the chicken in the fridge and he notices they are no longer frozen. My husband if REALLY wierd and particular about stuff getting ruined, food poisoning, E Coli, etc. SO HE THREW ALL THE CHICKEN OUT!!!!! Then, came my meltdown, which I will not go into. So, he leave for his night job, and I actually head back out to get more chicken, not ruining it this time. I finally found the wax things at cracker barrell (lots of old candy there), and my dinner and surprise candy turned out pretty good! He seemed to really appreciate that I made so much effort for him, although by this point, he is probably surprise and wondering what I am up to and why I am doing all this nice stuff :)

I'm trying to lose weight so that means no more sweets in the house. My husband loves sweets so he's been suffering right along with me. So, I bought him some Reese's Peanut Butter Cups and told him to hide them from me and that he doesn't have to share with anyone. He was very happy!
