Husband Project Day Two

Project #2
Back in the Day
Do Something He Enjoyed Before You Got Married

“Lust is easy. Love is hard. Like is most important.” ~ Carl Reiner

Your Project:
Initiate an activity that your husband used to love. Whether it’s his favorite hobby, sport, or pastime, it’s time for you to get involved – be his buddy today.

Getting Creative
• Many a man’s hobby has gone by the wayside due to matrimony. Is it possible that it’s time you learned to golf or fly fish? Don’t try to beat him, just join him.

• Possibly the only thing your husband would enjoy more than playing chess with you is teaching you how to play chess. Ask for a lesson so he can teach you something that he is an expert at (or really loves). Just your willingness to learn will be a huge boost to your guy.

• Pick up a magazine about your guy’s now dormant hobby. Ask him questions about why he loves it so much. Learn a couple of technical terms so that you are better able to discuss it.

• Do a little research. Find out what the definitive website is on your husband’s favorite subject. Maybe there’s an event in town, a lecture to attend, or a game to watch.

Christy's note: I know this may be a little challenging to accomplish in one day, buy hey, this is a challenge, right? I know that Jay LOVES it when I sit down and watch one of his "nerdy" TV shows with him on the Discovery or History channel. Even though I would never watch them on my own, and it's really hard to put everything else aside to do something that I don't find much fun, it really means a lot to my husband to spend that time with me doing or watching something that he loves. And it really isn't so bad once I get into it! Sometimes men feel like they lose a piece of themselves when they become "us." Even though they love being husbands and fathers, a small piece of every man fantasizes about the "old days." I'm excited to hear what you do!

Don't laugh but before David & I had kids we were BIG Xbox players. In fact, I was offered a chance through Microsoft to play professionally on an all girls gaming squad. The only reason we turned it down, was it meant LOTS of traveling and not much time at home. Anyway...Since we've had kids we still have both our Xbox's but rarely play. Honestly, when David gets on & plays I am usually complaining wishing he would help me clean the kitchen, help with the kids, etc. Anything but play Xbox! This afternoon, he wanted to play so I casually said "ok" and went on about my tasks. When I got my cookies baked I said "hey, I think I will play with ya". He was SO surprised. I went and got on my Xbox and we played Xbox together for awhile. We pulled out the Rubbermaid box of Lincoln Logs for the kids to play with and they were happily entertained while we spent some time playing Xbox together again! :)

I surprised Robbie with a batch of his favorite cookies today! I used to make them, but it seems like since Ryder I don't really take the time to make him treats. At dinner, we talked about his favorite pasttime. He has not really stopped anything that he liked to do since Ryder came along. He is still involved in softball, playstation, well.. you get the picture! So, tonight at dinner we talked about his fantasy baseball league that he is in! I NEVER ask about it or comment... quite sad... but I think he was glad I asked and we had a conversation about something he loves! Tonight just happens to be the Allstar game where they can trade players... I am sure this conversation will continue so I can be interested in his NEW team!

Well, I have bruises to show for this challenge! LOL Dh loves to wrestle and I admit that I do too, growing up as a tomboy. This is something we have not done since before I was pregnant. So, I pulled a sneak attack while we changed the sheets and we wrestled for about 30 minutes. He even said "that was so fun, we haven't wrestled in a long time". And I agree, it was fun. But I'm definitely feeling my age! LOL
